Upside Down Love: Sari Bashi in Conversation with Ahmed Moor

Join us at local Char and Stave as Sashi Bashi discussed her memoir Upside Down Love with Palestinian American writer Ahmed Moor. This timely and provocative book, written in Hebrew and published in January in English translation, made the USA Today bestselling books list and describes how Sari, an Israeli-American Jewish human rights lawyer, and her partner, a Palestinian professor and refugee from a Muslim family, fell in love and managed to make it work, in the shadow of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. It has also been published in Italian, Spanish and Dutch.
The memoir challenges assumptions about Israelis and Palestinians being locked into a biblically-ordained ethnic or religious conflict and instead presents an option of co-resistance. Saris relationship with her spouse during the war in Gaza has been the subject of a New York Times Modern Love essay
Sari Bashi is an internationally renowned human rights lawyer and writer, the co-founder of the Israeli human rights group Gisha, a former program director at Human Rights Watch and the current executive director of the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel.

Tisha B'Av Gathering with IfNotNow, Main Line Jewish Justice Collective, and Never Again Action
With the calamity of fascism in the United States including the persecution of migrants, along with the disaster of apartheid and genocide in Israel/Palestine, there is a lot to grieve in these times. On Tisha B'Av, a day for remembering the calamities that have befallen the Jewish people as a result of baseless hatred (sinat chinam), we in IfNotNow Philly, Main Line Jewish Justice Collective, and Never Again Action are holding space for the heart to safely break.
We are gathering for reflection and inspiration to action in the evening on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at an outdoor location in Lower Merion Township. The exact location, which is close to public transportation, will be sent to those who register.
Can't attend this event? We also endorse the action with Rabbis for Ceasefire in Center City at 5:30 PM same day.
The event is on flat though unpaved ground. While we are not currently planning to have sound amplification, the environment is not expected to have much noise.
