Ian Lustick in Conversation with Shadi Hamid: Israel's Lobby and American Politics

  • Episcopal Church of the Redeemer - Burns Hall /Parish House 230 Pennswood Road Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, 19010 United States (map)

Join us for a timely conversation about the power of the Israel lobby, American democracy, and Israel-Palestine—and how invocations of Jewish safety can silence advocacy for Palestinian rights while serving far-right interests that most American Jews don’t share.

Ian Lustickis the Bess W. Heyman Chair, Emeritus, in the Political Science Department of the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a founder and past President of the Association for Israel Studies and one of the country’s leading scholars of Israel-Palestine and American foreign policy.

Shadi Hamidis a political scientist, author, and columnist for TheWashington Post. His books include The Case for American Power; The Problem of Democracy: America, the Middle East, and the Rise and Fall of an Idea; and Rethinking Political Islam.

Mavey Books, the wonderful fully independent  BIPOC women-run bookstore (& community space!) in the heart of Ardmore, will be on hand selling Israel’s Lobby, as well as books by Shadi Hamid and other books related to the theme of the talk.  Please support them!
